Come Be My Light

"Come be my light...." Jesus' invitation to Mother Teresa in 1946 was the light that illumined her entire life. "I cannot go alone. They [the poor] don't know Me, so they don't want me. You come.... Go amongst them. Carry Me with you...." This "call within a call", the details of which remained hidden in the intimacy of her relationship with God until after her death, had taken her by surprise while still a young teaching nun in the Loreto convent. 

"വാ... എൻ്റെ വെളിച്ചമാകൂ..." എന്ന യേശുവിൻ്റെ ക്ഷണം 1946-ൽ  മദർ തെരേസയുടെ ജീവിതത്തെ മുഴുവൻ പ്രകാശിപ്പിച്ച ഒരു ദൈവവിളിയായിരുന്നു. "എനിക്ക് ഒറ്റയ്ക്ക് പോകാൻ കഴിയില്ല. ദരിദ്രർ എന്നെ അറിയുന്നില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ട് അവർ എന്നെ സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നില്ല. നീ വരൂ... അവരുടെ ഇടയിലേക്ക് പോകൂ... എന്നെ അവരിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകൂ..." എന്ന യേശുവിൻ്റെ ഈ വാക്കുകൾ അവരുടെ ജീവിതത്തിന് പുതിയ ദിശ നൽകി. പിന്നീട് "ഒരു വിളിക്കുള്ളിലെ മറ്റൊരു വിളി" എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെട്ട ഈ അനുഭവത്തിന്റെ വിശദാംശങ്ങൾ, മദർ തെരേസ മരിക്കുന്നതുവരെ ദൈവവുമായുള്ള അവരുടെ ആഴമുള്ള ബന്ധത്തിൻ്റെ രഹസ്യമായി തുടർന്നു. ലോറെറ്റോ സന്യാസസഭയിൽ യുവ അധ്യാപികയായിരിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ് ഈ അപ്രതീക്ഷിത ദൈവവിളി അവരെ തേടിയെത്തിയത്.
