പുറപ്പാട് പുസ്തകം 19-ാം അധ്യായം വിവരിക്കുന്ന പത്തു പ്രമാണങ്ങളുടെ വെളിച്ചത്തിൽ രൂപം കൊണ്ട ധാർമ്മികഭാവമാണ് യഹൂദജനത്തിനുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. ഈ കൽപ്പനകളെ 365 നിയമങ്ങളാക്കി വർദ്ധിപ്പിച്ച് അവരുടെ ജീവിതനിയമമാക്കി കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നത് നാം കാണുന്നു. മനുഷ്യൻ്റെ നന്മ കാണാതെ നിയമത്തെ മാത്രം മുറുകെ പിടിക്കുന്നതിനെ യേശു പലപ്പോഴും ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യുന്നത് സുവിശേഷത്തിൽ കാണാം. അതേ ക്രിസ്തു തന്നെ സ്വർഗരാജ്യത്തിലെത്താൻ എന്തുചെയ്യണം എന്ന ചോദ്യത്തിന് നീ പ്രമാണങ്ങൾ പാലിക്കണം എന്നാണു പറയുന്നത് (മത്താ 19:17-19).

The Ten Commandments, described in Exodus chapter 19, shaped the moral values of the Jewish people. Over time, these commandments were expanded into 365 laws that guided their daily lives. Jesus often challenged the attitude of those who focused only on following the law without caring for people's well-being. Yet, when someone asked Him what they must do to inherit eternal life, Jesus replied that they should keep the commandments (Matthew 19:17–19).
