St. Therese of Lisieux teaches us: “Trust in God. When the world is overwhelmed by despair, God alone remains our sure hope.” A person who is discouraged must rise above self and look toward God. Small acts done with love can lead to great hope. In family life, at work, and in society, even the simplest acts of service can become seeds of God's hope.

Just as St. Therese, from the hiddenness of her convent, spread the fragrance of the Gospel throughout the world, each of us can shine as a light of hope in our own small corner of the world. In a time when people often feel isolated and unavailable to one another, we can choose to be present for others and carry God's loving presence wherever we go.

Holiness is not a privilege reserved for a few. By living with love and hope in the ordinary moments of life, everyone can grow in holiness. In this way, no one is left behind or discouraged; rather, all are helped to grow toward the fullness of life in God.
