'വീടിൻ്റെ വടക്കു കിഴക്കായി ഒരു കുളം ഉണ്ട്. അതിൽ നിറയെ താമരയാണ്. വിശേഷദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഈ കുളത്തിലെ താമരയിലകൾ പറിച്ച് കഴുകി വൃത്തിയാക്കി എടുക്കും. അത് മേശമേൽ ഇട്ട് അതിലാണ് ഊണ്. ചൂട് ചോറ് താമരയിലയിൽ വീഴുമ്പോൾ അതിൽ നിന്നു പൊങ്ങുന്ന ആവിക്ക് താമരയുടെ സുഗന്ധമുണ്ടാകും'.

"There is a pond to the northeast of the house, filled with lotus flowers. On special occasions, the lotus leaves are picked, washed, and cleaned. They are then spread on the table and used as plates for serving food. When hot rice is placed on the lotus leaves, the rising steam carries the gentle fragrance of the lotus".
