Human life requires a choice. We must choose either to reach heaven through a life of complete holiness or to turn away from God and live separated from Him. Every step we take in our daily life leads us toward this choice. Maria Goretti was a person who understood this truth deeply. Even if she had not become a martyr, she would still have become a saint because of her holy life.
